Dr Apel is the founding owner of The Eye Health Centre Brisbane with practices in Brisbane City, Aspley, Wynnum and Booval.
Dr Apel is a leading Corneal and External Eye Disease Physician. Dr Apel completed his Ophthalmology training in Brisbane, then undertook a two year Corneal and External Diseases Fellowship at the University of Toronto, Canada in 1992.
With over 25 years of experience in treating medical and surgical conditions of the anterior segment of the eye, Dr Apel has published peer reviewed journals and lectured internationally. He is past chair of the Qld Qualification and Education Committee RANZCO. His teaching commitments include being a Senior Visiting Medical Officer at Princess Alexandra Hospital Brisbane. As well as being a member of relevant professional bodies, he is Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee Brisbane Day Surgery, a Director at QLD Laser Vision, Member of the Specialist Advisory Committee and Sustainability Committee at Cura Day Surgeries and Member of the Corneal Society Special Interest Group Most recently has been asked to join the Regional Advisory Committee of the World College of Refractive Surgery and Visual Sciences.
His particular surgical interests include DMEK corneal transplantation and presbyopia and refractive error correction using intraocular lenses and Laser.

Associate Professor Bala specialises in cataract, cornea and refractive surgery and glaucoma surgery, with comprehensive experience in the anterior segment of the eye. He is a partner at PersonalEyes Sydney and works at Macquarie University.

Dr Uday Bhatt is a highly experienced ophthalmic surgeon and is fellowship trained in cornea and anterior segment diseases. His main interests are conventional, laser cataract surgery as well as refractive surgery. Dr Bhatt is one of the few researchers based in Australia who have performed and published a Cochrane systematic review as the first author.
Dr Bhatt has been the primary investigator in some of the ground breaking research projects investigating the latest intraocular lens (IOL) technology and glaucoma therapy. Dr Bhatt is the first surgeon in the world to implant the Clareon IOL, and the first Panoptix trifocal in Australia, both as part of a research trial. He is also the first surgeon in Victoria to implant a Clareon PanOptix in Victoria. He has also implanted a large number of Vivity Extended Depth of Focus IOLs, amongst the highest in Australia.

Dr Borovik is an Ophthalmic surgeon with fellowship training in Cataract, Cornea and Refractive Surgery who practices in Sydney and Wollongong.
He holds a staff specialist position at Prince of Wales Hospital where he teaches cataract and corneal surgery.
Dr Borovik has published numerous articles in the peer reviewed literature, lectured widely at international conferences including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
He has also served as a surgical instructor for courses in corneal surgery and complex ocular surgical techniques. He has recently completed enrolling patients as an investigator for the global Vivity registry assessing outcomes and patient satisfaction and will be presenting the initial results at the upcoming Asia Pacific Society of Cataract and refractive surgeons conference.

Dr Georgia Cleary is a cornea, refractive and cataract surgeon practicing in Melbourne.
Georgia completed her undergraduate medical degree in Perth, Western Australia, then relocated to London, UK in pursuit of ophthalmology experience. She undertook ophthalmology specialist training as a candidate of the London Specialty School of Ophthalmology, and completed a PhD, comprising clinical and laboratory research into intraocular lens (IOL) design, accommodating IOLs and posterior capsule opacification.
Subsequent subspecialty surgical fellowships in cornea and external eye disease followed, at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and then the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH), Melbourne. These provided training in the medical and surgical management of corneal disease, including corneal transplantation, complex cataract and refractive surgery.
Georgia has a public appointment at the RVEEH, where she is the acting head of the Surgical Ophthalmology Service – the hospital’s cataract service. She is also a consultant within the cornea unit. She has honorary fellow appointments with the University of Melbourne, and the Centre for Eye Research Australia. She holds private VMO appointments at Epworth and Cabrini, and consults in East Melbourne, Brighton East and Frankston.
She enjoys managing anterior segment disease, and achieving great visual outcomes for her cornea, cataract and refractive patients.

Dr Connell provides a cataract, refractive and corneal surgery service at Eye Surgery Associates. Dr Connell performs Laser-Assisted and Conventional Cataract Surgery. He also performs Laser Vision Correction (LASIK) and TransPRK and Corneal surgery to correct keratoconus and other corneal disease.
Dr Connell’s interest in Ophthalmology started in 1992, when, as a medical student, he undertook a project at the Fred Hollows Foundation in Eritrea, Africa.
After completing his internship in 1995, Dr Connell worked at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. He then undertook ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital Melbourne, and was engaged as a Senior Registrar in his final year. He then went on to complete Advanced Subspecialty Surgical training at the Manchester Royal Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, specialising in cataract surgery, laser vision correction and corneal transplantation. He also held an Honorary Consultant Position at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
Dr Connell has a strong academic interest in medical auditing, in particular working on the development of tools to enable surgeons to audit their surgical outcome. He believes this is a significant tool in enabling best possible patient outcomes. Dr Connell has a particularly thorough and detailed approach to auditing his own surgery. This allows him to regularly present his results to his peers at conferences and offer his own patients realistic expectations regarding their own surgery.
He holds an appointment at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital as a Consultant with the Corneal Unit.

Dr Lana del Porto is a Melbourne based cataract, refractive and squint surgeon. Dr David Gunn is a Brisbane based ophthalmologist specialising in medical and surgical diseases of the cornea, complex cataract surgery and laser and refractive eye surgery. He practices at the Queensland Eye Institute, Brisbane.
Dr Gunn trained in Medicine with honours and Ophthalmology in Queensland and was awarded the K.G. Howsam gold medal in the RANZCO fellowship. He undertook subspecialty training in corneal and refractive surgery at the Bristol Eye Hospital, United Kingdom.
Dr Gunn has special interest and a research focus in laser eye surgery and advanced keratoconus treatments. He introduced CAIRS surgery to Australia in 2021 and has performed several Australian and world first procedures in the area of keratoconus.

Dr Aanchal Gupta is Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) with an interest in Cataract, Corneal, and Refractive Surgery.
She is fellowship trained with a highly prestigious fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery fellowship from the University of British Columbia, Canada under world renowned experts Dr. Simon Holland, Dr. David Lin and Dr. Martin McCarthy and was recently awarded fellowship to the World College of Refractive Surgery and Visual Sciences.
She was the first surgeon in South Australia to perform Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) and Descemet Striping only (DSO) for Fuchs’ endothelial dystrophy; and Topography-guided PRK and Keraring implantation for management of Keratoconus.
Dr Gupta has particular interest in customised laser vision correction and refractive cataract surgery. She is also a RANZCO College Councillor, a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Adelaide, the Australian and New Zealand Ambassador for the Refractive Surgery Alliance, and a member of the AUSCRS committee of members.

Dr John Hogden completed his ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital, where he was recognized for his excellence with a travelling scholarship and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) Topham Scholarship. Dr Hogden further refined his knowledge and skills with subspecialty training in corneal and refractive surgery at the world-renowned University of British Columbia Vancouver Eye Care Centre in Canada before entering private practice.
In addition to being a Fellow of RANZCO, Dr Hogden belongs to other prestigious professional associations such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Committed to furthering the field of anterior segment and refractive surgery, Dr Hogden is actively involved in ongoing clinical research and has presented at international ophthalmology conferences as well as authored several papers. He has also helped educate future ophthalmologists through positions as a clinical supervisor for RANZCO, senior lecturer at the University of Queensland and tutor at multiple universities. Dr Hogden is a consultant Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH), where he is actively involved in clinical research and medical education.

Jason graduated from QUT in 1994 with a Bach. Applied Science (Optometry) with Honors.
He started his career as a locum Optometrist with The Optical Superstore in 1995 and spent time consulting in all corners of Australia.
In 2001 he also commenced sessional work with Ophthalmologist and Anterior Eye Specialist, Dr Andrew Apel, at the Eye Health Centre in Brisbane.
In 2002 he was promoted to the National Director of Optometry for the Optical Superstore Group which engages 90 Optometrists at 65 locations across Australia.
In 2012 he completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics and became a Credentialed Optometrist with CASA.
He then founded in 2006, an advanced Dry Eye Clinic at The Eye Health Centre in Brisbane, managing challenging patients utilizing the latest technology.
Jason also served as a Director and Treasurer for Optometry Australia, QLD & NT, for 9 years until 2017, he also served on the Optometry Australia National Board for three years and currently sits on the QUT, Deakin and UWA Optometry Advisory Boards.
Jason has lectured on Contact Lenses and Dry Eye in Australia and across South-East Asia and was the recipient of the Optometry Australia Qld Optometrist of the year in 2018.

A/Professor Rob Paul graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1992 and completed Ophthalmology specialist training in 2001 in Western Australia. He then undertook Fellowship training in Corneal and Refractive surgery at the University of Toronto before returning to Perth in 2002.
He currently works as the Medical Director at WA Laser Eye Centre with a special interest in Cataract ,Corneal and Laser Refractive Surgery. He has a longstanding history of serving on the WA Branch of RANZCO as Secretary and Treasurer and is currently a Federal Councillor on the RANZCO board. In addition he serves as a Part 1 RANZCO Examiner in Optics and Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Curtin Medical School. He is Adjunct Associate Professor at the UWA School of Optometry.
